University Moving and Storage has helped countless families relocate into their new homes since 1969, and we’re proud of that fact. Even in a small way, helping families through what can be a difficult transition is something we take very seriously. It’s part of our commitment to giving back to the community and serving families who need assistance, but it’s not the only way in which University Moving and Storage does so. For example, our partnership with Move For Hunger has helped countless families in need by providing them with much-needed food items. Whether we provide safe, professional moving services or help through our partnership with Move For Hunger, University Moving and Storage is dedicated to helping families in need.  

About Move For Hunger

Since 2009, Move For Hunger has helped provide more than 4.4 million meals to people in desperate need of assistance. Nearly 42 million Americans are unsure of where their next meal will come from; yet nearly 40 percent of food in this country ends up being wasted. One significant source of that wasted food comes from food that is discarded during a move or relocation. Rather than attempt to transport food items to their new homes, many people simply throw those food items away so they don’t have to go through the trouble of trying to preserve it.

 Instead of letting so much food go to waste, Move For Hunger partners with local relocation and moving companies across the country to collect nonperishable food items from people who are moving into new homes. These nonperishable food items are packed by crews from the moving companies and donated to local food banks, where they are distributed to local families in need. Families often use moving as a reason to get rid of a lot of items that simply take space in their homes. Unfortunately, many times, these items include food that could go to people in need. Through Move For Hunger, those food items are sure to get to people who are hungry.

Our Connection to the Community

Move For Hunger’s mission has grown a lot over the years. Today, more than 600 moving companies and thousands of real estate professionals across the country partner with the organization to help food banks. In all, these partnerships have resulted in more than 5.3 million pounds of food being donated to food banks across the country.
